The Lakshmi Shobhane is a Kannada song of blessing for Lakshmi and Narayana, composed by the sixteenth-century Madhva saint Sri Vadiraja Tirtha and sung for centuries at Madhva weddings and auspicious gatherings in Karnataka. A shobhane is a wedding song, and this one calls the grace of Lakshmi onto the home: for prosperity, for a blessed marriage, for the wellbeing of the family. It belongs to the Haridasa tradition of Kannada devotion, the world of Purandara Dasa and Kanaka Dasa. Here the same song is set in Devanagari, so readers of that script can follow and sing along, sharing in a devotion that began in Karnataka.
