Shri Venkatesha Stotram

श्री वेङ्कटेश स्तोत्रम्

Brahmanda Purana — Venkatachala Mahatmya, Chapter 4 ("Greatness of the Venkata Mountain"), Brahma–Narada Samvada Deity: Venkateshwara (Vishnu / Srinivasa) Metre: Anushtup 16 verses

Sixteen verses from the Brahmanda Purana, where Brahma tells Narada exactly who lives on the seven hills. It opens with a line every Tirumala pilgrim knows by heart: 'Venkatesho Vasudevah Pradyumno mita-vikramah.' The stotra runs through Vishnu's names. Vasudeva. Sankarshana. Aniruddha. The avataras. Srinivasa, Srinidhi, Sriyah-pati. Each name comes back to one place. Venkatachala. The phala-shruti is unusually plainspoken. No fear from spirits or serpents. The childless will have children. The poor will gain wealth. The sick will recover. Whatever you want most in this world, you will get. People recite it before going into court, before battle, before a difficult day. Most of all, before darshan.
