The Krishna Ashtottara Shatanama is a garland of Krishna's hundred and eight names, and Telugu devotees keep it close, especially around Krishna Janmashtami. The names come from the Narada Pancharatra, gathered as a simple way to hold the whole of Krishna's story in the mouth, one name at a time. People chant them for a settled mind, for a child's wellbeing, for protection, or simply out of love for the cowherd god. Krishna is worshipped the world over, at Udupi and Dwarka and in Vrindavan, and carried to every continent by movements like ISKCON and the Chinmaya Mission.
