At Guruvayur, the great Krishna temple of Kerala where the Lord is loved as Guruvayurappan, the hundred and eight names are woven into daily worship, and Malayalam homes keep them close on Janmashtami and through the year. The names come from the Narada Pancharatra, a garland that gathers Krishna's whole story into a hundred and eight handles for the heart. People chant them for calm, for courage, and for the wellbeing of the ones they love. Krishna is adored the world over, at Udupi, Dwarka and Vrindavan, and through movements like ISKCON and the Chinmaya Mission. Here the same names are set in the Malayalam script, which carries every Sanskrit sound, so they transfer letter for letter.
